TRADUCCIÓN.—El lar en las casas de Asturias en los tiempos pasados era por así llamarlo el lugar donde se prendía el fuego, era un rincón de unos cuatro metros cuadrados, que se levantaba sobre el tillado de la cocina poco más de una cuarta, por todos sus lados menos por el frente, estaba rodeado de escaños o bancos, donde las gentes se sentaban para calentase cuando el tiempo estuviese frío. En el mismo centro del lar se prendía el fuego, este lugar por regla general estaba enlosado con una losa de piedra caliza que era muy buena para cocer encima de ella cuando estuviese bien caliente, los tortus que se hacían con harina de maíz de escanda cuando cuadrara en necesidad o apetencia. También mismamente encima del fuego, estaban colgadas las calamiyeras (cadenas) que estaban atadas o sujetas a una de las viguetas donde se injertaban los barrotes que componían el "xardu". De las calamiyeires se colgaba el pote, que como creo todos sabrán sirve para industriar la comida, pues en el mismo pote, igual se guisaba un día un pitu franciscanu pal mediu díe, un potaráu de papes p'almorzar, ya un poticáu de cullestrus pa dir pal catre, aparti que tamén lu mesmu ente tempu ya tempu se cocinaben les llabaces pa lus bracus ou gochus.
